Does Shoeboxed return my documents?

With our Classic and Business plans, we automatically return your documents to you after processing, but we also offer a free shred-and-recycle option. Since Shoeboxed is accepted by the IRS and allows you to easily print a copy of any document stored in your account, there is really no need for you to hold onto the originals.

What happens to my data if I cancel my account?

You will always have immediate access to everything stored in your online account, even if you cancel. Shoeboxed will never delete data from your online account unless you explicitly request that we do so.

Yes, you can use Shoeboxed from anywhere in the world! At this time, our postage-paid envelopes are not available to users outside of the US and Australia, so you will need to provide your own packaging and postage to ship documents to Shoeboxed, but we will cover all shipping expenses to return the documents to you if you are on a Classic or Business plan. Shoeboxed Mobile, included with all plans, is a great feature for international use if mailing documents internationally is not feasible for you.

Yes, the IRS accepts digital (scanned) receipts for taxes and audits. The IRS has been accepting digital (scanned) receipts since at least 1997 under certain conditions, all of which are met by Shoeboxed. In order to be usable for your taxes, your receipts must be legible, must link back to other purchasing references, like credit card spending, and they must be submitted to the IRS within the accepted time frame typical for all receipts.
